Stratamed is a transparent, self-drying topical application. It forms a thin, flexible, protective layer, which ensures a constant contact time to the entire surface allowing it to work 24 hours a day.

The efficacy of silicone in scar management

Silicone gel sheeting (SGS) has been used successfully for almost 30 years by leading scar management specialists worldwide to improve the signs and symptoms of scars and prevent the development of abnormal scars [5,6], particularly in high-risk patients [7].

Recent clinical trials and clinical experience have shown that self-drying silicone gels applied from a tube (like Stratamed) show the same efficacy and the same excellent results in scar treatment and prevention of abnormal scar formation as traditional silicone gel sheeting – but are much easier to use and do not show the same limitations in their usage. [8]

Improving the efficacy of silicone

Stratamed is the first and only self-drying silicone gel, that can be used on non epithelialized wounds and compromised skin. This reduces the waiting period until scar prevention measures can begin and therefore dramatically reduces the incidence of abnormal scarring. [2]

Stratamed is easy to apply and convenient to use. It's a simple addition to existing wound care protocols, with no changes required.

Risk factors for abnormal scarring11

  • hormonal changes
    (e.g. pregnancy and puberty)
  • secondary wound healing
    (e.g. full thickness wounds
    or severe burns)
  • location of injury
(e.g. chest, back, or over large muscle groups)
